The Faculty of Engineering will organise the Faculty-based in-person 217^th Congregation on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Grand Hall of Lee Shau Kee Lecture Centre, The University of Hong Kong in three sessions.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) extends its warmest congratulations to alumna Dr Lai Ka-ying on her being selected as a crew member of the Shenzhou-23 manned spaceflight mission. As the first Hong Kong payload specialist to journey into orbit, her mission marks a new chapter of deep participation by Hong Kong’s scientific community in the national space programmes. HKU wishes the Shenzhou-23 mission every success and wishes Ka-ying a safe and triumphant return upon the completion of the historic mission.

Ir Professor Paul Poon Wai Yin, Honorary Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded the Honorary University Fellowship 2025 in recognition of his contributions to the field of power and electrical engineering, as well as his service to the University and the Hong Kong community.

Professor Yuhao Zhang of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, together with his team and collaborators from partner institutions, conducted the research “A megawatt ultra-wide bandgap semiconductor module for pulsed power electronics”.

Professor Xiaobo Yin of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, together with his team and collaborators, conducted the research “Anisotropic lattice distortion makes ultrastrong martensitic steel ductile”. The research findings were published in Science Advances on April 10, 2026.

Professor Can Li of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and his team and collaborators worked on the research “Trustworthy Tree-based Machine Learning by MoS2 Flash-based Analog Content-addressable Memory with Inherent Soft Boundaries”. The research findings were published in Nature Communications on April 24, 2026.

Professor Ruibang Luo and Dr Zhenxian Zheng of the School of Computing and Data Science, together with their team and collaborators, conducted the research “Gungnir codec enabling high error-tolerance and low-redundancy DNA storage through substantial computing power”. The research findings were published in Nature Communications on April 4, 2026.

The inaugural HKU Engineering Recognition Ceremony (Undergraduate Students 2024–25) was held on April 29, 2026 at the Rayson Huang Lecture Theatre. Nearly 200 awardees, along with their families, friends, faculty members gathered to celebrate the exceptional academic achievements of our undergraduate students, as well as their leadership, and accomplishments beyond the classroom.
